Kenya’s population is expected to grow to 63.9 million by 2030, the government has said.

According to James Muhati, Principal Secretary, National Treasury and Economic Planning, the population aged 15 to 34 years is expected to grow by 35%, reaching 22.3 million in the same period.

Muhati was speaking at the African Economic Research Consortium’s (AERC) 59th Biannual Workshop, titled Demographic Dividend, Migration, and Economic Opportunities in African Economies.

The PS praised the government for its unwavering efforts to empower youth through education, skill development, and job creation, among other viable initiatives.

Kenya has an estimated population of more than 54 million people as of January 2022.

Kenya has a relatively young age structure, with a sizable proportion of the population under the age of 25.

Kenya’s population growth rate has gradually slowed in recent years, owing to factors such as fertility rates, healthcare advancements, and economic development.
