A 16-year-old girl who sat for her Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) this year died after a mudslide caused by heavy rains.
The mudslide occured at Kwa Katungu area in Ndolo location, Kilungu sub county Kitui county.
Dinah Matheka, Ilima ward administrator, says the mudslide hit their house, collapsing the bedroom wall where the minor was sleeping.
Several homes have also been damaged by slides in the area caused by heavy rains that have caused floods in most parts of the country.
The government has set up a Disaster Center to monitor the deadly floods and coordinate disaster response efforts.
