Kenyan blogger Robert Alai Onyango has withdrawn from the Nyando parliamentary seat to vie for the Kileleshwa MCA seat ahead of the August 9, 2022, General Election.
The blogger said that he will be vying for the Kileleshwa MCA seat on an Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party ticket.
Alai cited a lack of adequate resources as one of the reasons why he bolted out of the parliamentary race.
“Most of us newcomers in elective politics are faced with a lack of adequate resources unlike our competitors who have the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) at their disposal,” Alai said.
He also claimed that the incumbent MP Jared Okello had received widespread support, prompting his decision to withdraw from the race.
“I bought 4 specific poll data which were of great interest to me. The 3 firms consistently showed me that I had a chance to be Nyando MP in 2021 but the tyranny of CDF which the incumbent holds changes things in the blink of an eye. So I never applied for nomination in the Nyando Constituency. All polls show that Jared Okello is still the strongest aspirant in the race,” Alai said.
ODM’s Elias Okumu is the current ward representative of Kileleshwa and has occupied that seat since 2013.
Alai will be battling it out with Ayisha Shollei (UDA) for the Kilieleshwa ward seat.
