There was high tension in 42 Kianda area within Kibra after a military ambulance ran over a woman who was trying to cross the road on Monday morning.
The 70-year-old woman was reportedly on her way to a butchery to buy meat when the speeding ambulance ran over her.
According to eyewitnesses, the ambulance was trying to overtake a lorry when it hit the woman, killing her on the spot.
The incident was confirmed by Gideon Ombongi, the deputy commissioner of Kibra subcounty, who said that police and additional military officers had been deployed to the scene to calm the situation.
The armed military soldiers repelled the agitated locals as they wanted to torch the military vehicle.
Mr Ombongi added that investigations into the incident have commenced, but advised residents to remain calm.
