Sterling leapt to meet a Riyad Mahrez cross in just 2 minutes and might have jad a hat-trick during the opening period.
The goal was enough for City to win at Arsenal. It was their 13th Premier League win in a row and 18th in all competitions, making it 11 successful away wins.
Man City boss Pep Guardiola said, “There are 39 poomts to play for and we need the victories to be champions and we will try in the next games. We only thobk of the next game, this is the only secret.”
This was a day to appreciate the outstanding central-defensive duo of Ruben Dias and John Stones, who outmiscled Lacazette with ease, as well as the midfield tenacity of veteran Fernandinho.
City had achieved their previous 8 victories without their best player, Kevin De Bruyne. The Belgian returning from a hamstring injury as a late sub after Wednesday’s win at Everton.
De Bruyne had already been involved in a saucy exchange of passes with Bernardo Silva, and Sterling had taken an air-shot at a decent chance, before City took the lead inside 90 seconds.
Sterling had a third scoring opportunity within five minutes when he was released by De Bruyne, only to stumble and allow Bernd Leno to collect.
Guardiola’s boys remain 10 points clear of second placed Manchester United, who they will face next month. Arsenal on the other hand, stay in mid-table, 11 points from the fourrh spot and 6 points behind sixth placed Liverpool.
