Asige Asks For Probe Into Safety Of Special Needs Students

Nominated Senator Crystal Asige has requested an investigation into the safety of students with special needs in educational institutions.

While requesting a statement from the Standing Committee on Education, the lawmaker asked the government whether staff at special needs education institutions had received emergency response training.

According to Asige, even emergency response personnel should be well-trained on how to deal with people with disabilities, especially in an emergency.

Asige reflected on a law that was repealed that stated that any building, school, or institution should be accessible to people with disabilities, and she requested that the committee review that law.

She stated that the government should design education, pedagogy, teaching, training, and infrastructure in schools and public spaces with the safety of people with disabilities in mind.
