Embattled Singer Bahati Gazetted For Mathare

Former gospel singer Kevin Bahati Kioko can now breathe a sigh of relief after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) gazetted his name to run for Mathare constituency.

IEBC released a statement on Sunday afternoon with a full list of the contestants vying for various political seats.
Celebrating the ‘win’ Bahati gave God the glory for finally fighting for him and ensuring he stands a chance of representing the people of Mathare.

“When jesus says yes… Nobody can say no!!! I have been the most fought mp candidate; my loosing opponent tried everything to threaten me & make sure I step down…. But look at what God has done!!! It’s official #iebc has gazetted me …. This is to clarify and make it official that on the 9th of August 2022…. Bahati’s wife Diana Marua also took her time to celebrate her lover’s win writing, “Season finale!!!!! You cannot fight what God has ordained, period!!!! @bahatikenya finishing strong is the only way. God got you, that is your power, that is enough.”

Last week nominated MP Maina Kamanda called upon President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga to give their final word on the flagbearers of the hotly contested Nairobi seats.

Kamanda said by having many candidates, they would lose the seats to their main opponents.

He spoke in Mathare on Monday at a rally graced by top Nairobi leaders of the Azimio coalition, where singer Kelvin ‘Bahati’ Kioko was chased away.

Bahati who attended the rally was forced out of the meeting even before he could address his supporters.

Leaders who seemingly wanted Bahati out forced him down the car.

Bahati was seen being roughed up by a group of men even as his security detail tried to intervene.

He is one of the victims of the Nairobi zoning.

A week ago, ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna said Azimio had settled on the incumbent Mathare MP Anthony Oluoch to fly their flag.

Bahati had been given the Jubilee ticket for the same position and has vowed not to step down.

The Azimio zoning plan has brought infightings in the coalition.
