Bandari Fire Coach Kimani After Embarrassing Cup Defeat To AFC Leopards

Bandari have sacked coach Anthony “Modo” Kimani following the 3-0 Mozzart Cup defeat suffered at the hands of AFC Leopards last Sunday at the Kasarani Stadium.

With the club struggling for consistency in league matches, their sky-high hopes of landing a title this season had been heavily invested in the oldest knockout tournament in the country but, the dream went up in smoke, following the humiliating defeat to Leopards.

The certain thing after the embarrassing defeat and the massive investment the management had channeled in strengthening the squad in the off and mid-season transfer window, was somebody had to take responsibility and, in this case, Kimani did.

His time at the coastal-based club come to an end after two years and two months of service.

Bandari Chief Executive Officer Edward Oduor confirmed that the axe had fallen on the former Kenyan international with veteran tactician Twahir Muhiddin taking charge in the remaining matches in the current campaign.

“We appreciate the work that Anthony Kimani has done for Bandari FC during his time with us, and we wish him well in his future endeavors. We have decided to part ways on mutual consent, and we believe this is the right decision for the club as we strive to achieve our goals and aspirations,” he said in a statement seen by Mozzart Sport.

The former Harambee Stars defender joined Bandari in February 2021 to deputize Rwandese tactician Andre Casa Mbungo whom he had worked with at AFC Leopards.

He was tasked with leading the team albeit in an acting capacity in February last year after Mbungo was shown the door over a series of poor results in the league.

His terms of engagement were reviewed up in August last year after impressing in the second leg of the past campaign.

and as a result, he was promoted to the rank of head coach.

The ex-Leopards assistant coach acquired arguably the best talent in the past two transfer windows, sending the clearest indication that he wasn’t ready to settle for a trophy-less season.

However, the team finds itself lagging nineteen points behind log leaders Gor Mahia and was tossed out of the Cup last weekend.
