Battered husbands urged to emulate Wetangula

MEN should report their wives to police whenever they are assaulted.

Kenya Men Association Chairman James Njenga says men are being  abused daily, but they are afraid to report their battering to the police for fear of stigmatization.

Njenga said many men have been maimed at even killed in 2019, but have stayedaway from the police to hide their shame.

Njenga says there is no shame in reporting assault, battering and even grievous harm.

“Our members are abused daily. The Government is looking the other way as men are maimed and even killed”, Njenga said.

He said men are going to stand up for their rights come 2020 and mooted the idea of forcing a Federation of Battered Association of Men to help members overcome the shame of being beaten by their partners.

Njenga said his organization will open branches in all Counties to help protect men and highlight their fate.

In 2016, Senator Moses Masika Wetangula rushed to Karen Police Station to report assault and actual bodily harm by his wife.

The Senator then said he was living in fear of being grieviously injured by his wife and asked the Police for protection.

During the 2017 campaigns, DP William Ruto accused Wetangula of cowardice, and said his move to admit battering by his wife was evidence of cowardice.

Wetangula has never denied reporting the matter to the wife.

Murdered Dutch tycoon  Tob Cohen also variously reported assault charges at various police station against his wife Sarah Wairimu. Wairimu also made similar reports against Cohen.
