Bible ‘Thief’ Charged In Court

A middle-aged man has been charged and released on Ksh 20,000 bond for stealing bibles.

Augustine Wanyonyi was said to have stolen two Revised Standard Bible versions from the Naivas Supermarket in Development house Nairobi CBD on November 29, 2021.

The court heard that Mr Wanyonyi took and hide the Bibles in his jacket before he was stopped and searched by the security guard at the exit.

According to the police report seen by Uzalendo News, the Bibles are valued at Ksh 1,840.

Wanyonyi told Milimani Chief Magistrate Wendy Kagendo that a person had offered to sell the bibles to him at a cost of Ksh 600.

‘A person offered to sell the bibles to me at Ksh 600. I took the bibles and put them in my jacket before I entered the supermarket,’ said Wanyonyi.

On being asked if he knew the person who sold him the Bibles he said he can only identify him upon seeing him.

‘I don’t know the person who gave me Bibles. I can only identify him if is see him,’ added Wanyonyi.

He further told the court that he had not paid for the said Bibles.

Hearing has been set for December 21, 2021.
