The Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Nakhumicha S. Wafula, has launched a new blood satellite bank center at the Mandera Referral Hospital.
This is great news for residents of Mandera County as they can now access safe and quality blood transfusion services. The launch is a significant milestone in improving access to quality health services in the region.
During her visit, the Cabinet Secretary emphasized that Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is a key priority agenda for the President and the Ministry of Health is committed to its attainment. The launch of the satellite blood bank center is a step towards achieving this goal.
“We encourage all residents of Mandera to donate blood and develop a culture of blood donation. This is because blood donation is critical in ensuring that the blood bank is well-stocked and able to meet the needs of patients in the region,” said the CS.
The Cabinet Secretary noted that the Ministry of Health is committed to supporting county governments in strengthening primary healthcare services while also building capacity for specialized care including critical care, renal and cancer services.
The launch of the Blood Satellite Centre is part of this commitment, and the Ministry will continue to support county governments by providing blood bags, testing reagents, and other necessities.
The CS who was accompanied by the Governor, County Government of Mandera, H. E. Mohamed Adan Khalif and other officials also visited the County Referral Hospital, KEMRI Laboratory, and the Kenya Medical Training College.
