Haribo has urgently recalled some of its Happy Cola F!ZZ sweets after a shocking discovery: at least three 1kg packs were found to be laced with cannabis, leaving an entire Dutch family—including children—dizzy and ill.
The contamination came to light in Twente, the Netherlands, when parents reported their kids falling “quite sick” after snacking on the popular cola-bottle-shaped gummies.
Lab tests later confirmed the presence of marijuana in the product.
The recall affects only 1kg packs with a January 2026 expiry date and production code L341-4002307906.
Shoppers are urged not to return the packs to stores, but to send them directly to Haribo for a full refund.
“We want to know exactly how this got into the candy and how the bags ended up in the store,” said Dutch police spokesperson Chantal Westerhoff.
The Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) has launched an investigation alongside Dutch police. Forensic analysis confirmed the drug, though the exact amount of THC is still unknown.
Haribo says UK products are not affected, and they’re cooperating fully with authorities.
“This is a live issue,” said Haribo in a statement. “We’re working closely with the Dutch authorities to establish the facts.”
Questions loom about how a trusted global brand’s product was compromised so severely.
