City residents woke up to an ugly scene and foul smell after garbage collectors hired by the City county demonstrated due to non–payment.
The garbage is said to have been littered by aggrieved workers who went around Nairobi’s Central Business District emptying bins onto the streets.
Nairobi County Executive Committee Member for Environment Larry Wambua who spoke to Capital FM, said the strike by contracted garbage collectors is a result of the non-payment of the contractors.
However, last month, City Hall announced plans to sign a contract with the National Youth Service to assist in garbage collection in the city.
