The conference of Catholic Bishops has now joined ranks with the Government and demanded Kenyans to take responsibility for the containment of the COVID-19 pandemic – By Henry Kimoli.
In a statement issued by the Chairman of the Kenya Conference of Catholic Bishops(KCCB), Phillip Anyolo, the Church said all protocols must be observed…and said Kenyans are on their own, and must now protect each other by wearing masks.
“Bishops urge you to be your brother’s keeper. The Government has done its part. Now we must give our contribution”, he said.
Anyolo said the cure to COVID-19 is in flattening the curve..and not in any other way.
He urged those designated as unfit to attend Church service to remain at home..and not expose themselves to the vagaries of COVID-19.
He said the Church will never abandon their flock…and said spiritual services will be readily available during the COVID-19 period.
“We love our congregants. But we must protect them. Either they observe the protocols or stay at home during Holy Mass”, he said.
The Church said it fully supports the government’s containment efforts and said individual Bishops have guidelines on how to administer individual parishes based on different circumstances.
Anyolo urged the youth to guard against promiscuity during the COVID-19 sabbatical. He said the youth must now take responsibility for their actions to combat the spread of COVID-19.
Anyolo said the young must stop segregating themselves from the family unit and urged them to freely discuss their challenges with their parents.
The Catholic Church society must remain firmly within the realms of the Church, which Anyolo described as the mother of mankind.
“There is shame in practicing societal evils and ills.. But there should be no fear of turning back to what society and specifically the Church advocates for”, Anyolo said.
The Catholic bishops are unanimous on what Kenyans must do to eradicate COVID-19, and that is to take full responsibility of adopting the health protocols.
