A new CCTV video shows the exact moment Lilian Waithera, an employee of the National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF), was shot while walking with a colleague along Kaunda Street in Nairobi’s city center.
Ms. Waithera was fatally shot on Monday, February 13. Rumors have it that she was a whistleblower in Sh 1Billion scandal in NHIF.
Ms. Waithera, dressed in a black sweater, is seen walking with her colleague towards the Jubilee Insurance Building after crossing from the Eco Bankside.
They cross Kaunda Street at Hamilton House and are later seen outside an Optica store.
Ms. Waithera appears startled in the Jubilee Insurance parking lot, with the video showing she was shot at 5:13:03pm.
There were two black vehicles near the crime scene.
She is then dragged along the roadside and collapses in the parking lot.
“There was blood oozing from her mouth, not on her clothes,” Florence Gichuki, an eyewitness, told NTV.
Ms. Gichuki stated that they did not know what caused her collapse, despite the fact that her colleague had told them to call an ambulance for a friend who had been shot.
A crowd gathered shortly after the incident.
As the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detectives work around the clock to solve the mystery, CCTV footage shows that people in the area claim they did not hear gunshots.
Based on the CCTV footage, an ambulance arrived 25 minutes after Ms. Waithera collapsed.
She was at the scene for 11 minutes before being rushed to Nairobi Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
