Central bank applauds Uhuru for securing UN Security council seat

The Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) joined the nation in celebrating Kenya’s election to be a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council – By Gerald Gekara.

The election will see Kenya sit on the Security Council for a two-year term beginning in 2021.

CBK Governor Dr. Patrick Njoroge said: ‶The election affirms Kenya’s continental leadership and its commitment to multilateralism.”

In context to the current coronavirus pandemic, Patrick Njoroge said Kenya has a unique opportunity to introduce a comprehensive African perspective in tackling the virus.

“This is particularly important in the
current context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Kenya will have an opportunity to introduce the African perspective in this crucial global body.”

He further congratulated the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for their efforts to secure the crucial seat.

“I congratulate the team involved and especially the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, whose tireless efforts led to
this important outcome.″

Kenya secured the UN Security Council seat as a non-permanent member after winning 129 votes against Djibouti’s 62 votes in the second round of voting
