Court has heard that Jacktone Odhiambo and LGBTQ activist Chiloba were married for four years prior to his murder.
A court heard that the key suspect in the murder of LGBTQ rights activist Edwin Kiprotich alias Chiloba went partying in numerous nightclubs in Eldoret town shortly after his death, using money from the fashion model’s M-Pesa account.
State counsel Mark Mogun told Eldoret High Court Judge Reuben Nyakundi that when Jacktone Odhiambo was arrested after being linked to Mr Chiloba’s atrocious murder, he was intoxicated following a night of fun using money from the deceased’s mobile account.
Mr Mogun told the court at the pre-trial hearing that Mr Odhiambo was responsible for Chiloba’s death, which occurred at his Noble Breeze Apartment on the outskirts of Eldoret.
“All circumstances point to the suspect as the main person who killed Edwin Kiprotich who was popularly known as Chiloba in his house where they were living together on a fateful night,” said Mr Mogun.
According to Mr Mogun, the two had been living as a couple for a year in the house Chiloba had lived in for four years.
Mr Mogun informed the court Mr Odhiambo was arrested following the discovery of a decomposing body of Chiloba in a steel box and discarded in the Kapsaret region, some 20 kilometres from Eldoret town, on January 3, 2022.
He pleaded with the judge to sentence the key suspect to death, citing what he described as overwhelming evidence against him in the case.
“This is a case of circumstantial evidence and we intend to bring 26 witnesses in the trial case since all evidence links the suspect to the brutal killing of the slain university student and fashion model,” Mr Mogun told the court.
