Kenya, has received humanitarian food from China consisting of 945 tons of rice.
The humanitarian assistance is the seventh of its kind since China promised to donate a total of 11,835 tons of rice worth 2.25 billion shillings in 2017.
Zhang Yijun, Minister Counselor of the Chinese Embassy in Kenya, said in Nairobi that the humanitarian assistance is the seventh of its kind since China promised to donate a total of 11,835 tons of rice worth 2.25 billion shillings in 2017.
In September, Kenya designated the prolonged drought, which has devastated 23 dry and semi-arid regions and left approximately 2.5 million people in need of humanitarian assistance, a national disaster.
The Chinese donation, according to Margaret Kobia, cabinet secretary for the Ministry of Public Service, Gender, Senior Citizens Affairs, and Special Programs, will help Kenyans afflicted by the country’s drought.
“I am pleased to mention that the grant we are getting today is a big help from a friendly government that has come to our rescue in our hour of need,” Kobia remarked.
The rice would be supplied to schools in the 23 dry and semi-arid counties, she stated.
The humanitarian food, according to Kobia, is a demonstration of Kenya and China’s amicable and cooperative relations.
