Officers from the office of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations have been called out by renowned lawyer Cliff Ombeta, after a video showing how a suspected thief being gunned down went viral.
The alleged offender, Vincent Oduor had been reported dead by the DCI after he was allegedly caught up in a robbery incident at Nairobi’s Kayole estate.
However, according to Cliff Ombeta, the suspected thug was gunned down in cold blood.
In the video of the incident that was shared on social media, a man is dragged by armed men, who he pleads not to shoot.
After Vincent being assaulted several times, the video ends in a pop sound that resembles that of a gunshot. No sign of a robbery, no sight of a shoot out.
The move by the city lawyer has caused mixed reactions, with a section of Kenyans faulting him for defending criminals.
Others lauded the work done by the lawyer to ensure that rogue police officers are brought to books.
The DCI is yet to respond to the claims.
