CJ Koome, Judiciary Embrace Children’s Love

Supreme Court judges on Monday interacted with babies from the Mogra Rescue Centre off Kiambu Road.

The topmost Legal minds in the Judiciary hierarchy had to abandon their high calling duty for a while to be with the less fortune children and prove to them that the Country cares for them and that they can always count on the Judiciary for a motherly and fatherly care and love.

All the Supreme Court Judges of Kenya led by Chief Justice Martha Koome today went at the Mogra Rescue Centre which caters for orphans for a visit.

Mogra Rescue Centre is a Children’s Home and Rescue Centre in Nairobi, Kenya. We cater to orphans, abandoned, homeless, vulnerable and poverty-stricken children. The Centre is currently home to over 565 children.

Mogra was established by Reverend Hannah Wairimu to support homeless children from Mogra Star Academy who were at risk of ending up in the streets. Throughout time, there were many children who lost their parents/guardians or were left without adult supervision. Some ended up having nowhere to live and when the rest of the school left in the evening, they spent the night in the classrooms.

The number of children increased and there was a need to obtain a bigger place to accommodate them. The rooms were expanded and named Mogra Soul Winner Rescue Centre. Mathare was also not very secure for the children. Things got worse during the 2007/2008 post-election violence. The founder chose to move the over 160 vulnerable children to her house for safety.

Her husband donated the land where the home is currently located. With support from her friend and other supporters, Hannah raised funds to build a larger place for the children, where needy children would call home.
