Communications Authority Director General Ezra Chiloba Resigns

Communications Authority (CA) of Kenya Director General Ezra Chiloba has resigned.

In a statement, the authority stated that Chiloba tendered his resignation to Mary Mungai, the chairperson of the CA board on Wednesday, October 18, 2023.

While confirming Chiloba’s resignation, Mungai wished him good riddance in his future endeavours. She also acknowledged and expressed appreciation for his contribution to the organization.

“On behalf of the authority, I wish the outgoing Director General success in his future endeavours and appreciate his invaluable contribution to the organization and the wider ICT sector,” Mungai stated.

The former Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) CEO was appointed as the authority’s Director General in 2021 and has served in the position for two years. He was set to serve in the position for a 4-year renewable term.

Chiloba’s resignation comes weeks after he was suspended over claims of gross misconduct and misuse of office.

Following his sudden suspension, Christopher Wambua was appointed to sit in an acting capacity pending the determination of Chilonba’s suspension.

“Following a meeting of the Authority’s Board held on 18th September 2023, resulting in the suspension of the Director General, I am pleased to inform all staff of the appointment of Mr. Christopher Wambua as Director General in acting capacity effective today until further notice,” Wambua said in an internal letter to staff.
