Police have launched investigations into an officer who allegedly destroyed a Kericho Senatorial aspirant’s posters
The National Police Service (NPS) through Kericho Police Station is in receipt of a complaint from Ms Quenas Chepkemoi, an aspirant for Kericho senatorial seat that while on a campaign trail meeting supporters at Royal Hotel, Kericho, posters pasted in her motor vehicle were pulled down by a known police officer.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) said that they are currently investigating the incident for appropriate action.
“NPS regrets the incident, especially targeting a female aspirant. We wish to reiterate our highest assurances for the security of all aspirants, and more specifically female candidates. No acts of hooliganism and intolerance directed against the vulnerable groups, including female, youth and persons with disability shall be tolerated from any quarters, including from those in law enforcement,” NPS tweeted.
The Inspector General further directs all police officers to remain focused on security provision during this electioneering and continue to exhibit professionalism, responsibility and responsiveness to such victims.
The National Police Service noted that it has put in place adequate mechanism to address all forms of harassment including SGBV against female aspirants including those in vulnerable groups.
