A Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) officer was sentenced to two years in jail after being found guilty of indulging in recruitment malpractices.
Major Chemjor was found guilty of receiving Ksh. 200,000 from Mr. Mohammed Shambaro on the false pretense of influencing his son’s enrollment.
The Court Martial sitting at Kahawa Garrison, presided over by Judge Advocate Diana Mochache and comprised of Senior Military Officers, found Major Ben Kipkogei Chemjor guilty of three charges of behavior prejudicial to good order and military discipline.
He was also convicted of receiving Ksh. 150,000 from Mr. Emmanuel Nguah Mwandege on the false pretense that he would influence his son’s enlistment.
Similarly, the officer was found guilty of collecting Ksh. 170,000 as a recruiting enticement from Mrs. Celestine Achieng’ Odero.
KDF reitarated its zero tolerance to corruption by cautioning Kenyans against the vice.
“The Kenya Defence Forces desires to remind the public that its recruitment efforts are open to all qualified candidates and are free of charge. Members of the public are advised not to pay bribes to those claiming to have influence over the KDF recruiting process.”\
