Court Upholds Kinoti Jail term

George Kinoti, the Director of Criminal Investigations

High Court has declined to set aside the 4-month sentence imposed on DCI boss George Kinoti.

The embattled investigations officer had sought the court to overturn the sentence, claiming that he had been wrongfully enjoined in the case.

According to submissions made by his counsel, Kinoti claimed he was not in possession of the firearms in question.

He said that if the court had known about this “new information,” it would not have made the ruling it did.

The firearms, according to Kinoti, are in the possession of the firearms licensing board.

Mrima, on the other hand, said Kinoti had failed to show how the firearms were transferred from him to the board.

Should he fail to surrender, Kinoti risks being arrested by Police Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai.

“In the event, Kinoti fails to avail himself as ordered, a warrant of arrest will be issued against him. The warrant shall be executed by the Inspector General of Police,” Mrima added.
