A record 1,062 patients have been declared free of coronavirus in the last 24 hours. This is the largest single-day recoveries reported since March 23rd – By Gerald Gekara.
While announcing the regular Health Ministry update, Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe applauded the health workers for the healthy numbers that have so far peaed at 12,961.
In the new recoveries, it was reported that only 79 of the discharges were from hospitals while the rest were from the home-based care program.
Kenya has confirmed a further 599 more Covid-19 positive cases, further pushing the total number of cases in Kenya to 26,436.
Nairobi continues to lead in terms of the distribution of cases in Counties with (318). Others were Kiambu (70), Nakuru (38), Machakos (38), Mombasa (28), Kajiado (26), Isiolo (10), Kakamega (6) and Kisumu (4).
The new cases were reported from 4,420 samples tested over the same period. Kenya has so far tested 353,727 people.
In terms of gender distribution, 373 of the new cases were male and 226Â are female. The youngest case is a 1-year-old baby, and the oldest is aged 82.

Kagwe took to task, health workers dishing out COVID-19 negative certificates to families, in order to have regular burials.
“It has been brought to our attention about doctors behaving badly to undermine families by exploiting their emotions,” he said.
Speaking at his backyard on the state of preparedness, Kisumu County Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o confirmed that isolation beds had surpassed the 400 mark with 25 of the cases being for the critically ill patients.
“There are plans to upscale the bed capacity here at JOOTRH by a further 200 beds to bring the number to 339 and the county tally to 601 within the next three months. Our quarantine capacity stands at 148 beds,” said Dr. Anyang Nyongo.
