COVID-19: Uhuru urges responsibility as Kenya tally nears 18,000

440 more COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in the last 24 hours, bringing the total tally of cases in Kenya to 17,975 – By Gerald Gekara.

In a statement to press rooms, the Ministry of Health confirmed the positive cases were sourced out of 3,197 samples.

In terms of counties, Nairobi recorded (326), Machakos (32), Kajiado and Kiambu (17), Uasin Gishu (13), Mombasa (10), Muranga, Baringo, and Kilifi had (5) cases, Busia, Wajir, Nandi each had (2), while Nyeri, Embu, Taita Taveta and Tharaka-Nithi reported (1) case each.

Baringo becomes the latest entrant in the number of counties reporting Coronavirus cases, with 5 new patients recorded.

45 out of the 47 counties have so far recorded coronavirus cases.

However, five patients have succumbed to the virus, further pushing Kenya’s fatalities to 280.

The total number of recovered cases rose to 7,833 after 90 people were discharged from treatment facilities.

President Uhuru in his address, urged Kenyans to take responsibility and avert major spike in deaths.

“We are not immune or special. The fact that other countries don’t report what happens in their countries doesn’t mean they are not suffering, for us we are an open society. We report everything. Our media is free,” he noted.
