Tana River County Senator Danson Mungatana struggled to control his emotions as he narrated to the Court the sad moments leading to the loss of his entire wealth to a foreign cartel.

The senator appeared before Magistrate Benmark at Milimani Law Courts to testify in case where a Chadian national Abdoulaye Tamba Kouro has been charged with obtaining Ksh 76 million from him by falsely pretending that he (Tamba) would invest the money in the importation of Oil.

Tamba was in possession of Ksh 960,126,000 million in fake currencies when he was arrested.

Senator Mungatana told Court that initially, the the Chadian looked like a good man, he told him that he would introduce him to a business that would double his money in a span of 6 months.

According to the senator, he deposited Ksh 500,000 in the first round which doubled to Ksh 1M after 6 months. He then deposited Ksh 5 million and doubled to Ksh 10 million in 6 months.

The Cartel, according to the senator has many servants who treat him like a king, his compound is always surrounded by heavy cars, a trait which succeeded in convincing him that indeed his money was safe with the cartel.

The cartel approached the senator for the third time and told him that he had a deal which would require a huge amount of money. He told him that he will be required to invest with 1million US Dollars.

The senator was easily duped and he ended up selling all his belongings including a house in Karen in a bid to raise money, he went ahead to borrow from friends and family.

After converting the cash to USD, he forwarded the same to the cartel.
Little did the Senator know that that would be the last time he was meeting the cartel as a freeman.

He disappeared immediately and switched off all his phones.

His wife and children could not come to terms with the bitter fact that they had lost the prestigious life they were used to, and unending lawsuits would later be following the only man they knew to be their hero in the family.

Mungatana pleaded with the court to lift the bond to the accused person citing that the court erred in fact and law by granting the accused person bond despite the fact that he is a foreigner.
