Detectives have rescued an 8-year-old boy who was taken by his stepfather early this morning and returned him with his distraught mother.

The boy’s frightened mother, Everline Nandera, had reported the incident to the Embakasipolice station at around 9:30 am.

Early in the morning, the mother left their Embakasi, Tel Aviv, house and travelled to the Muthurwa market. But when she returned at 9:20 a.m., she discovered her husband and her missing son.

“A note had been left behind by the husband Nemwel Ondari, 32, demanding a ransom of Sh50,000, for the release of the boy. In the note, the man also warned his wife that he would kill the boy using a kitchen knife which he had carried, should she try any monkey business,” said DCI

The moment the woman filed her case at the Embakasi police station, detectives from the prestigious Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB), which is situated in the DCI Nairobi region, gathered and started a quest for the perpetrator.

A few hours later, the culprit was located and detained by the detectives with the assistance of their Embakasi counterparts at the NMS Green Park matatu terminal off Haile Sellasieavenue.

The police discovered that the couple had a contentious disagreement the previous evening and that after Everline went early in the morning to care for her family in Muthurwa, the man packed his clothes and a kitchen knife in two bags before fleeing with the young boy.

Around 4 o’clock, the cops pounced on the man as he eagerly awaited the transfer of the ransom into his Mpesa account.

Mother and child were reunited as the man was led away and sent to the Embakasi police station, where he is currently cooling his heels while awaiting arraignment.

“We thank Ms Nandera for her quick action that enabled our detectives to move in swiftly and arrest the suspect before he harmed the minor.” Said DCI.
