Declare Covid-19 an emergency, Doctors demand

A top cardiologist Dr. Joe Ruturi says Kenya is in the midst of a Covid-19 peak and wants it declared a National emergency. – By Meshack Makau

Dr. Ruturi, a thoracic surgeon and heart specialist wants more resources allocated to the Covid 19 fight before it gets out of hand.

“We are talking about post-Covid19? Who bewitched us? We are in the middle of a pandemic”, Ruturi said in a tweet.

Dr. Ruturi’s statement comes shortly after a presser by clinical workers, who decried the loss of frontline workers who have succumbed from COVID-19.

Two top consulting doctors, Professor Anthony Were and Dr. Nira Patel succumbed to the virus yesterday as the crisis deepened.

Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe said 1,211 people tested positive, The total caseload stands at 76,404 as of November 21. 

Kenya is however plagued with an increasing number of fatalities, which have peaked at 1,366.
