DP Gachagua: Raila’s Name To Be Added To The Register Of Elderly Persons For Gov’t Aid

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is seemingly pushing for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s retirement from active politics.

Speaking in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County – where his convoy made a brief stop on its way to the final day of Devolution Conference 2023, Gachagua stated that Odinga’s name should be added to the register of elderly persons for government’s aid.

According to the DP, President William Ruto has established a good system to facilitate his(Raila’s) smooth transition once he eventually leaves.

“President Ruto gave greenlights for persons over the age of 70 years to be registered to receive monthly stipends. I have ordered the PS to register Raila Odinga so that he can be receiving his Ksh2,000 per month and the rest,” Gachagua stated.

Further, the second in command lashed at Raila over his jibe at US Ambassador Meg Whitman whom he asked to “keep her mouth shut” following her remarks on the credibility of the August 9 polls at the ongoing Devolution Conference.

Raila retaliated that Meg whom she termed ‘rogue’ should tread carefully noting that Kenya is not a colony of the United States.

“The rogue Ambassador must be told that Kenya is not a colony of the United States of America. She must respect Kenyans or keep her mouth shut,” Raila hit back.

In his response, Gachagua said;

“Raila claims he can order the US to recall Meg Whiteman but he cannot even sack an assistant chief in his village in Bondo.”
