Deputy President William Ruto has welcomed parliamentary leadership changes, urging the politicians not to harbour grudges against one another.
Ruto has urged MPs to work together, hours after they approved a list of the reconstituted committees ending a tussle between Jubilee and ODM parties.
Earlier on, the National Assembly Leader of Majority Amos Kimunya was forced to withdraw a list of the reconstituted committees after Jubilee and ODM failed to agree on how to share the slots created after the DP allies were purged from the positions.
The two parties, who have been working together were headed for a clash on the floor of the House after failing to reach a consensus on the leadership of three crucial committees.
“The committees now have seven days to elect their chair and vice-chairpersons, in accordance with the Standing Orders”, said the Speaker of the National Assembly Justin Muturi.
He said members of the respective committees will elect those who have expressed interests in leadership positions. The vacancies that have arisen following the removal of chairmen and vice-chairmen of 22 committees must be filled by Friday.
