Noordin Haji, the Director of Public Prosecutions, has ordered Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai to arrest police officers accused of being involved in the deaths of two brothers from Kianjokoma in Embu, Benson Njiru Ndwiga and Emmanuel Mutura.

The DPP then asked the National Police Service (NPS) to arraign the accused in a Nairobi Court in a statement dated Monday, August 16.

The directive was given by Haji to prevent officers from meddling with the Independent Policing and Oversight Authority’s investigations (IPOA).

“Based on the preliminary investigation report forwarded by the Inspector General (IG),  I am shortly directing the IG to immediately arrest and arraign in court, in Nairobi, all officers involved pending investigations by the IPOA to avoid any interference with evidence and or intimidation of witnesses.”

“For that reason, and keeping in view the urgency of this matter, we expect to receive the results of all investigations into this matter no later than close of business today, August 16, 2021. We have their assurance and commitment to do so.”

The two brothers were supposedly arrested during curfew hours and died under unexplained circumstances.

On August 8, their bodies were discovered at the Embu General Mortuary.

Following the conclusion of an investigation into the matter, the IPOA approved murder charges against the six cops, according to an earlier report.
