NMS Officer Arrested Over Bribery

According to EACC, the arrest was the result of investigations following a report filed with the Commission on September 7, 2022.

EACC has arrested an officer from the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS) over allegations of demanding a bribe.

Mr Daniel Omido was arrested yesterday by EACC officers for demanding a bribe of Ksh 400,000 from a citizen in order to approve an online application through the service portal.

He was arrested at the Uchumi House Building after he received Sh200,000.

The money was found in the suspect’s shopping bag before escorting him to the EACC Police Station for processing.

According to EACC, the arrest was the result of investigations following a report filed with the Commission on September 7, 2022.

According to the commission, the complainant claimed in the report that his company, Quality Plus Laboratory and Consultancy Services, was awarded a two-year food handlers examination contract under NMS from May 2022 to May 2024 by the Nairobi City County Government.

The goal was to test food handlers in hotels and eateries before the Nairobi County Government Health Department issued certificates in Dagorreti North, Kasarani, and Kamkunji sub-counties.

EACC stated that handlers apply online through the NMS portal and pay Sh250 to KRA.

The approval is also done online by County Staff Officers at Nyayo House before being referred to the appropriate laboratories for testing.

According to the complainant, the officer demanded the bribe on Monday in order to expedite the approval of applications in the portal.
