Jubilee vice chairman David Murathe, has been summoned by the anti-corruption agency for questioning over allegations that a firm associated to him Kilig Ltd, was irregularly awarded a Sh4B tender to supply Kemsa with Covid -19 personal protective equipment.
Reports indicate that, Kilig Ltd was registered this year January 22, hence was not listed amongst prequalified firms to supply Kemsa.
Its suspicious that the firm got the tender through manipulation and high ranking mobilization. KIlig could have been handpicked and awarded the supply tender of 450,000 PPEs at Sh9,000 each. EACC CEO in a letter summoning Murathe as a person of interest indicates.
“The commission is investigating allegations of procurement irregularities in relation to the Covid-19 emergency supplies at Kemsa where Kilig Limited, a company you are a signatory to its bank account, is featured,”.
The commission is acting on president Kenyattas order that demands a conclusive report on Kemsa scandal in 21 days.
David Murathe, the family of Meru Governor Kiraitu Murungi and former Karachuonyo MP James Rege are persons of interests lined up by EACC for questioning over their involvement with the medical supplies authority.
Meru Governor’s family, his wife and son are alleged to have been involved in the tendering through their firm Caperina Enterprises. Sources said that Kiraitu’s wife and son have a date with EACC on Monday.
The firm was awarded a Sh45M tender to supply Kemsa with surgical face masks. Eng. Rege KETRACO chairman is set for grilling. Duke Agencies a firm associated to him was awarded a contract to supply Kemsa with 20,000 PPEs at Sh9,000 scoring Sh180M deal. Rege is not new to procurement scams, he was arrested and arraigned in court over a tender irregularity in Karachuonyo CDF worth Sh2M.
Murathe has engaged the Deputy president in a war of words even associating Rutos allies to the scam. The EACC sermon is likely to excite the Deputy presidents camp as the political sanitation politics take center stage. So far Kemsa Ceo alongside to others have been suspended and pressures is mounting on cs health Mutahi Kangwe and his Ps in the ministry to resign over the scandal.
