Editorial: Why DP Ruto, Raila Must Be Bonded To Keep Peace

Written By Henry Kimoli  | |

Since 1992, incitement to violence in the Rift Valley, parts of Nyanza and, Western Kenya has become a ritual.

Many Kenyans have lost their lives over Presidential elections in these areas, and dozens displaced from their homes.

Specifically, Eldoret has been the epicentre of the clashes, mainly pitting the Kikuyu and the Kalenjin communities.

This however is not the story. Njoroge and Lagat have no enmity.

It is specifically because of greed for power that those close to then-President Moi, who decided to chase away others from the Rift Valley.

In 2008, the remnants of 1992 and 1997 repeated the script and killed, maimed many people. To protest the alleged rigging of elections.

Moi was never charged with these offences. Raila Odinga and President Kibaki were not charged for the 2008 violence.

2022 is here. President Kenyatta is in power and he HAS the machinery, including KDF to ensure that no Kenyan dies for rejecting DP William Ruto and Raila Odinga, the two factors that may trigger violence.

Rule Of Law

We have a working constitution that must be deployed to ensure that those on whose behalf Kenyans are incited against one another are dealt with as per the law.

Kenyans are either Christians, Muslims or atheists. None of these groups advocate the killing of innocent people…and voting is not an offence.

Conversely, DP William Ruto and Raila Odinga must record statements over rising political tensions in the country.

We cannot continue pretending that some areas of this country belong to certain tribes.

It is not even a must that Musalia Mudavadi, Kalonzo Musyoka and Moses Wetangula should rule Kenya.

The threesome, Ruto and Raila have equal rights with the 47 million or so Kenyans who they seek to lead.

Should it happen that the Presidential candidates are not ready to conform to the constitution, then the law is clear on the next cause of action.

This country MUST not go to the dogs because of five individuals.

It is them who should either play by the rules or physically sort out their differences at Uhuru Park.

The patience of Kenyans is running thin on perpetual election violence permeated by handshakes that don’t resurrect those killed during election violence.

Way to go. All Presidential candidates MUST be bonded to keep the peace.

Enough is enough.
