Milimani court has allowed police to detain a suspect who opened social media accounts in the name of Cs Edwin Owalo, for three days in Kilimani police station pending completion of the investigation.

The police sought to hold the suspect Calvince Otieno Odhiambo for four days after he was arrested for allegedly impersonating Cabinet Secretary for Information Technology and Digital Economy Eliud Owalo on the Facebook account he allegedly created.

The Facebook account was active on diverse dates between December 6, 2022, and January 5, 2023.

The matter was reported by the CS after his attention was drawn over the extortionist account.

On January 5, police traced the suspect and were arrested in Homabay where several sim cards were also recovered.

One of the recovered mobile phones is the one that was used by Mr Odhiambo to post Facebook messages like; “Hi friends, we can discuss employment, business, development opportunities, women, men and youth empowerment in this podium to help each other in building a better society and a better country in these hard economic times because I believe that if we hold each other’s hands we will conquer demon called poverty in Jesus name,”

The investigation officer, Rinos Musungu pleaded with the senior principal magistrate Benard Ochoi to allow further detention of the suspect to allow scrutiny of the exhibits recovered from the suspect’s House.

The investigation officer told the court that at the time of arrest, the suspect was using a sim card registered with the identity card of Anjilina Achola Odede who was born in 1939,

He further told the court that the suspect has been hiding the identity of numerous persons to fraudulently register sim cards.
