Jailed Drug lord Akasha’s Son Faces Robbery With Violence Charge

Akasha, son of imprisoned drug trafficker Baktash Akasha has been charged with robbery with violence.

The was arraigned on Monday with robbing two persons of Sh134,500 in cash and property.

Akasha Baktasha Baktash is accused of stealing mobile phones and money from his victims while armed with kitchen knives and a hammer.

Mr Baktash was charged in the first count of robbing Derick Gikanga Wanjiku of Sh3,000, a techno mobile phone worth Sh41,000, shoes for Sh2,500, an ear pod worth Sh1,700, and perfume worth Sh1,300.

The court was told that while perpetrating the crimes alongside others who are yet to be arrested, Mr. Baktash used physical violence on the victim, Wanjiku causing injuries to the back of his skull.

In the second count, he was charged with robbing Naeem Yusuf Mohamed of Sh15,000 and stealing an iPhone worth Sh70,000. He threatened to use physical violence against the victim while committing the crime.

He is suspected of perpetrating the two crimes on January 29, 2022 in the Voyager Hotel area and January 6, 2023 in the Kenol region of Nyali Sub-county.

Mr Baktash, on the other hand, rejected the charges when he appeared before Shanzu Senior Principal Magistrate David Odhiambo.

Prosecution Counsel Nadrat Mazrui did not object to bail but requested that the court impose strict conditions due to the nature of the charges.

He was freed on a Ksh 1 million bail. The case will be heard on February 14, 2023.
