First Batch Kenyan Troops Leave for DRC

President Ruto said that Kenya just like any other EAC member state, has a stake in the stability and security of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

On Saturday morning, the first batch of Kenyan soldiers deployed to fight M23 rebels in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in a joint regional operation left the country.

This comes about a week after President William Ruto launched a peacekeeping mission of the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) to assist President Felix Tshisekedi’s government in its efforts to repel M23 rebels who have taken up critical positions in the mineral-rich North Kivu province.

President Ruto said that Kenya just like any other EAC member state, has a stake in the stability and security of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

The soldiers were met at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Saturday morning by Chief of the Kenya Defence Forces General Robert Kibochi, who reminded them of their joint mission to enforce peace at DRC with other East African Community states.
