FKF Boss Nick Mwendwa Leads Sports Fraternity In Mourning Magufuli

The sports fraternity in Kenya is mourning the death of Tanzania’s President John Magufuli. Magufuli died on Wednesday at in Dar Es Salaam. – By Madellene Kalunda.

Magufuli, 61, died of a heart attack, according to a televised announcement by the country’s vice president, Samia Suluhu.

Suluhu said Magufuli was rushed to hospital and attended to by heart specialists.

Football Kenya Federation President, Nick Mwendwa, condoled with Tanzanians saying a moment of silence will be observed on Thursday during an international friendly match between Harambee Stars and Tanzania’s Taifa Stars.

This was before an updated tweet where Mwendwa said the match has been cancelled to allow the Tanzanians to mourn the demise of their president.

Harambee Stars captain, Victor Wanyama and striker Michael Olunga also went on their social media to express grief and pass their condolences to the people of Tanzania.

Since 27th February, Magufuli had not been seen in public. This sparked speculation that he had contracted COVID-19. However, on 12th March officials denied that he had fallen ill.

Magufuli had denounced measures to stop the spread of the virus and called vaccines a western conspiracy, frustrating the World Health Organization (WHO).
