Flood Alert: Thousands left homeless as death toll rises to 237


Floods in the country have led to the death of 237 people killing more than covid-19 which is a global pandemic – By Prudence Wanza.

Devolution CS Eugene Wamalwa said that more than 161,000 households are affected and the number is expected to increase. The most affected areas include; Garissa, Tanariver and Mandera after River Daua broke its Banks.


The CS said dams will be constructed along River Nzoia to harvest the water lost during the rainy season and control the flooding situation.

The CS has urged residents in Garissa and Tanariver to move to safer grounds as Masinga dam and Kiambere are full.


Parts of Naivasha, Nakuru, and Gilgil are also affected. The weather man has already warned that floods will be experienced till the end of May and the government is now working towards cushioning the Kenyan affected.

The floods and landslides being experienced in the country are as a result of heavy rains in the country leading to dangerous water levels in dams, and, rivers breaking their banks.
