Patrick Mwenda, a former assistant commissioner-general of prisons, has died.
Mwenda was rushed to the hospital on Monday, January 3 after falling in the restroom.
The fall caused him to receive head injuries, which need surgery.
Mwenda, who was also the Officer in Charge of Naivasha Maximum Prison before his retirement, died two days after being admitted to a private hospital in Mombasa.
The former prisons chief had told his family that he wanted to be cremated when he died, and the family is working to make that happen.
Mwenda’s request for cremation comes at a time when Kenyans are abandoning traditional burial rituals in favour of simpler and less expensive funerals to save families money.
