Former Tetu MP Francis Thombe Nyammo Dies at 86

Former Tetu constituency Member of Parliament Francis Thombe Nyammo is dead.

In a statement on Monday, September 29, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula confirmed Nyammo’s passing away.

Wetang’ula mourned Nyammo as a distinguished leader who was committed to community welfare.

The Speaker also sent his condolences to Nyammo’s family, friends, and residents of Tetu constituency.

“With deep sorrow, I have learnt of the passing of former Tetu MP, Hon. Francis Thombe Nyammo.

“He will be remembered for his distinguished service, leadership, and commitment to community welfare. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends, and the people of Tetu. May his soul rest in peace,” Wetang’ula eulogized.

Tetu MP Geoffrey Wandeto mourned the former legislator, not only as his predecessor but also his mentor and friend.

“I am deeply saddened by the passing on of Hon. Francis Thombe, FT Nyammo, former MP for Tetu. He was not only my predecessor but also my mentor and friend,” said Wandeto.

Nyammo served as the Tetu Constituency MP from 2008 to March 2013.

The former MP had a Bachelor of Arts in Economics, History, and Political Science and went on to become a prolific academic and astute businessman.

He served in leadership roles at the National Bank of Kenya, Kenya Reinsurance, as Chairman of Longhorn Publishers, and Chancellor of Inoorero University.

Nyammo’s service and impact earned him national honors, including the Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW).

His death comes weeks after former Rongo Member of Parliament Dalmas Otieno passed away.

In a statement on Sunday, September 7, Wetang’ula paid tribute to the late politician, describing him as a respected leader whose service to the nation left a lasting mark.

“I have learnt with deep sorrow of the passing on of Hon. Dalmas Otieno, a distinguished leader, seasoned legislator, and statesman whose contribution to Kenya’s political and socio-economic landscape will be fondly remembered.

Otieno entered active politics in 1988 when he was elected the first Member of Parliament for Rongo Constituency under the then ruling KANU party.

He served in several ministerial positions, including as Minister for Industrialisation from 1988 to 1991, Minister for Labour and Human Resource Development in 1991, and later as Minister for Transport and Communications from 1991 to 1996.
