Four Charged with trafficking 11 Ethiopian Nationals

BY PRUDENCE WANZA – Four people have been charged with human trafficking 11 Ethiopian Nationals at the Milimani Law Courts.

The four, Ali Mitano Liban, Abdinasir Walde Haile, Mohammed Makura Darche and Mohammed Walde Haile on 9th July,2019 are alleged to have transported and received the 11 Ethiopian nationals for the purpose of exploitation using a lorry registration no. KBS 577Z make HINO along Nyeri Nairobi highway at Makuyu area,Murang’a County.
Abdinasir,Mohammed Makura and Mohamed Walde were arrested waiting for the victims along Eastern by pass after a thorough coordination by Transnational Organization Crime Unit Officers.
The prosecution led by Lindsey Mugambi opposed their release on bail with grounds that the accused persons are believed to be part of a powerful cartel operating with Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania that has been under surveillance by the Transnational Organized Crime Unit and might be tempted to flee the country when released on bail.
The prosecution also cited that the accused persons are suspected not to be Kenyans and their Identity Cards are being verified to a certain the information.
However their Defence Lawyers told the court that the accused persons live at Eastleigh area in Nairobi and there is no evidence to show that they are operating in a group of cartels.
Magistrate Bernard Ochoi ruled that the case will be mentioned tomorrow for bail ruling and pretrial to establish a special hearing for the victims to testify.
Meanwhile the accused persons will be remanded at Industrial area while the victims will be held at Gigiri Police Station.
