Garissa County Governor Sacks Over 3000 Ghost Workers

The governor of Garissa county has ordered the removal of more than 3,000 false names on the payroll.

Governor Nathif Jama said the names were discovered following a human resource audit.

“We found over 180 people employed as directors, assistant directors and assistant deputy directors only 44 of them hold the appropriate requirements in terms of documentation such as requirements for degrees. The other 136 persons do not hold degrees and that is a requirement of the law,” he stated.

It also found that most directors and their deputies were hired to head departments without having mandatory university degrees. And about 100 drivers were employed yet the county has only 12 vehicles in its transport department.

Jama said a taskforce had been appointed where those complaining of unfair dismissal can present their case.
