Gengetone Very Much Alive In State House

The 59th Madaraka Day celebrations at Uhuru Gardens Monument and Museum were jam-packed with entertainment and super performances.

Kenyans were treated to a cocktail of home-bred by a wide range of artists who had been booked for the event.

Kenya’s signature music, Gengetone, was performed to perfection by sensational artists Mario TJ Kasela, also known as Trio- Mrio, Iyani, and Femi One.

The three gave a thrilling performance of their musical collaboration that was infused in gengetone tune before President Uhuru Kenyatta, guests and thousands of Kenyans who were following the event.

While waving Kenyan flags, the three burnt the dance floor in a captivating manner.

This is not the first time Trio Mio has graced functions graced by key dignitaries.

In February this year, for instance, Trio graced Jubilee Party’s National Delegates Covention which was attended by over 4000 members including President Uhuru.

During the 2021 Jamhuri day, President Uhuru Kenyatta embraced the viral Mbogi Genje, Benzema, Maandy, Ex-Ray Taniua, Masauti and Stevo Simple Boy in what was described by youth as a sign of commitment by the government to support upcoming artistes.

All this was made possible by the Permanent Presidential Music Commission (PPMK), a musical wing of the Presidency tasked with entertainment.

The commission broke away from traditional choirs and dancers, to accomodate modern talents that are beginning to shape the sound of Kenya.

Other innitiatives by the government include the Studio Mashinani project spearheaded by the KFCB, and the KFC.

Gengetone, which was widely accepted by Kenyans amid its vulgar, crude lyricism.

The hits dominated the airwaves for the better part of the 2019-2021 pandemic, with majority of the talent being high school and campus students.

The genre however had been subject to frequent attacks by government agencies over their explicit content.
