German Police Burn Cocaine Worth 34.3 Billion

German police incinerate cocaine

On Wednesday, police in Germany’s Bavaria area announced the destruction of 1.5 metric tons (1.65 US tons) of cocaine with a street value of roughly 270 million euros ($304 million) – their largest such operation to date.

The drugs were burnt Tuesday under strong security at a facility in an undisclosed location in Bavaria, according to the state’s criminal police office.

The cremation, nicknamed “Operation Snow Melt” by authorities, burned cocaine confiscated in a number of previous investigations.

In one of those situations, personnel discovered approximately 200 kilos (440 pounds) of the medicines in ten Bavarian supermarkets in September 2017. They’d been stowed away in banana boxes.
