Gor Mahia Wants Raila to Postpone Kamukunji Rally For Mashemeji Derby

Gor Mahia has written to Raila Odinga, leader of the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition, asking him to postpone Sunday’s planned protests so that supporters from both clubs can attend the Mashemeji Derby.

In a letter signed by the club’s Secretary General, Samuel Ocholla dated Thursday, January 26, Kogalo said “As our dear Patron, we wish to remind you of our Masherneji Derby Clash with AFC Leopards at 3 p.m. – Nyayo Stadium; the same clay where you will be holding a consultative meeting cum demo.”

Raila had announced that he would be holding a consultative meeting at Kamkunji grounds on Sunday, January 29.

K’Ogalo also took the opportunity to officially invite the Azimio party leader to grace the occasion.

“We also appeal to you to consider either rescheduling the demo or having it in good time to enable the supporters of both clubs to make their way to the stadium in time for the derby,” part of the statement read.

Aside from politics, Raila is also the patron to the 19-time Kenya Premier League champion.

The Mashemeji Derby is one of the fiercest football rivalries in Kenya between two of the country’s oldest clubs.

Ingwa and K’Ogalo are Kenya’s most successful clubs sharing 30 league titles between them.

Currently, AFC Leopards rank 7th, while Gor Mahia holds the 3rd position.
