Governor Sakaja Has No Power To Quash Nightclub Licenses: PERAK

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja lacks the power to withdraw nightclub licenses, according to the chairman of the Pubs, Entertainment and Restaurants Association of Kenya, Michael Muthami.

Muthami stated on Thursday that the environmental department is in charge of closing down noisy bars.

“It was a sweeping declaration, which was illegal at the time, and he does not have the authority to cancel; only the Nairobi Liquor Board has the authority.” “There is a defined mechanism for rescinding a license,” he remarked.

Muthami alleged that Sakaja’s blanket nightclub decree had an impact on compliance establishments, allowing authorities to collect bribes.

“Police are entering bars and extended licensed areas in malls and forcing customers to leave. The opportunity for corruption has grown enormously “he stated.

“People are afraid to go to their local bar because they don’t know if the cops will show up.”

Muthami stated that Sakaja’s statement may have been misconstrued and urged the governor to clarify it.
