Governor Sakaja Unveils More Trucks To Boost Garbage Collection

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja unveiled ten new skip loaders and skips on Monday to help with garbage collection throughout the county.

During the flag-off ceremony at City Hall, Sakaja stated that the initiative complements his ambitious goal of cleaning up the city, while also expressing confidence that the trucks will help the county achieve its goal.

“This equipment will go a long way to ensuring garbage is collected and we keep our environment clean,” said Sakaja.

Each skip loader will be assigned five skips (containers), bringing the total number of skips purchased to 50, the most in recent years.

The skips will mainly be stationed in markets and high garbage points across the county and will be part of equipment procured for the Green Nairobi sector.

So far 27 tippers have been delivered and 24 refuse compactors are expected early next year.

Meanwhile, about 2,500 youth, known as the Green Army, have been hired to clean the city and unblock drainages.

Another 1,500 youth are expected to be hired to join the Green Army team.
