Kituo Cha Sheria Files Petition To Stop EPRA From Increasing Fuel Prices

Kituo Cha Sheria has filed a petition seeking to stop the Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority (EPRA) from reviewing the prices of petroleum upwards.

“The fuel prices in Kenya have recently reached historical highs, causing concern and economic strain for both citizens and businesses with recent announcement seeing petrol prices surpassing 200 shillings per litre for the first time ,” reads the petition.

According to Kituo cha Sheria, the government has failed and refused to control and subsidize fuel prices leading to extreme economic hardships which is currently affecting many Kenyans.

“The respondent (EPRA) have a duty to control and stabilize fuel prices to cushion Kenyan population from extreme hardships,” reads court papers.

Further, the petitioners aver that members of the public stand to suffer irreparable loss if the government is not ordered to urgently perform its legal obligations to protect its citizens further suffering slow economic decline.
